The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for developing and executing marketing, content, and communications strategies that enhance the reputation, visibility, and growth of both NANA North as the parent company and each of its subsidiary businesses. This role leads efforts to build a strong, cohesive brand presence while supporting the distinct needs of individual operating companies.

 

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep expertise in content strategy, sales enablement, brand positioning, public relations, and executive communications. This role requires strong leadership in supporting business development initiatives, including sponsorships, collateral, and proposal management, as well as ensuring a unified corporate marketing strategy that effectively engages employees, customers, and stakeholders.

 

**This position is an onsite position at one of NANA's offices in either Anchorage, AK or Phoenix, AZ.  We are not offering a fully remote work option at this time.**

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Brand Positioning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that strengthens NANA North’s brand while supporting the unique identities of its subsidiaries.
  • Ensure alignment between corporate marketing efforts and subsidiary-level marketing needs, providing strategic guidance to each business unit.
  • Maintain and evolve brand messaging and positioning to ensure consistency, credibility, and impact across all platforms.

 

Content Strategy & Digital Marketing

  • Lead content strategy across all communication channels, ensuring compelling, value-driven storytelling that highlights NANA North’s impact and expertise.
  • Oversee digital marketing initiatives, including social media, websites, and paid media, leveraging analytics to optimize reach and engagement.

Business Development & Proposal Management

  • Collaborate with business development teams to create high-impact marketing materials, sales presentations, sponsorship proposals, and other collateral that support revenue growth.
  • Oversee the proposal development process, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with NANA North’s strategic objectives.
  • Drive sponsorship and partnership strategies that enhance business visibility and generate opportunities for subsidiary companies.

Corporate & Executive Communications

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on external and internal communication strategies, media relations, and crisis management.
  • Develop executive messaging and presentation support for key leadership, ensuring alignment with corporate vision and values.
  • Lead internal communications efforts that foster employee engagement and a strong company culture

Marketing Operations & Community Engagement

  • Oversee advertising, events, public relations, and community engagement initiatives to enhance NANA North’s presence in key markets.
  • Manage strategic relationships with media outlets, industry partners, and community organizations.
  • Act as a spokesperson when needed, representing NANA North in public and industry forums.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing marketing and communications team, ensuring accountability, creativity, and professional growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with subsidiary marketing teams, offering strategic guidance and ensuring brand consistency.

Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish KPIs and performance metrics to assess marketing effectiveness and drive data-driven improvements.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging marketing technologies, ensuring strategies evolve with changing market dynamics.

Budget & Project Management

  • Develop and manage the marketing and communications budget to maximize return on investment.
  • Oversee project timelines, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met on schedule and within budget.

Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success and efficiency of the department.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or related fields, with a strong track record of leadership.
  • Experience in industries such as oil and gas, engineering, construction, hospitality, and/or services is highly desirable
  • Expertise in marketing strategy development, brand management, and public relations.
  • Proficient in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and analytics.
  • Strong project management and budgeting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit, and produce high-quality content.
  • Proven leadership and team development experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively to both internal and external audiences.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past 3 years.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Up to 25% of the time. Employee may travel throughout Alaska and/or to remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.   Travel to and from the worksite will be provided and arranged by NANA.
